Why we are opening a school

Karen did not need another school. It needed this one.

Nairobi has excellent schools. It has fewer where a child is actually known: where the class is small enough that nobody drifts to the back and stays there, and the facilities are good enough that a child finds the one thing they are brilliant at early.

We inherited a campus built for many hundreds of children. Rather than fill it as fast as possible, we are opening it slowly, one small cohort at a time, and holding classes at twenty-five. That decision costs us money and buys your child attention. It is the whole argument for Elyton, and we would rather be judged on it than on adjectives.

The Campus

Every room, already finished

Our Karen campus was designed from scratch as a full international school, and every part of it — the pool, the track, the laboratories, the studios — was finished long before we opened our admissions list. One small cohort gets the run of all of it this year, an advantage we can only offer once.

    A hall with a stage, so assemblies, drama and a school production are possible rather than aspirational.

    Specialist computing provision supporting coding, robotics and digital literacy across the Key Stages.

    Instrumental tuition and performance, with piano lessons available as an optional activity.

    Swimming taught on site from the first term, rather than bussed out to a hired lane across town.

Community & Belonging

An international school, from the first day

Our classrooms open this year to families from across Nairobi's international community. What we can tell you today is how we intend to run them: English as an additional language supported rather than penalised, religious and cultural observance accommodated as a matter of course, and every family's heritage treated as something the school gains from. Ask us how we will handle your child's particular situation; we answer specifically, not generally.

Our People

Experienced teachers, at a brand-new school

The single fairest question to ask any new school is: who exactly is going to teach my child? We would rather you asked our team that in person than read a paragraph about it. Every one of them will be on campus on 29 August.

Hired before we opened the list

Our founding faculty were appointed ahead of admissions, not recruited to match whatever enrolment we achieved. The team is set before the first fee is paid.

British curriculum specialists

EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 leads who have delivered this curriculum before, alongside specialist teachers for science, computing, music, art and sport.

At the Founding Open Day you can ask any teacher where they have taught, what they believe about learning, and how they will settle a room of new children in week one.

    Open with the founding cohort

    Early Years through Year 6, classes capped at twenty-five, every specialist facility in use from the first term rather than phased in later.

  2. As they rise

    Growing with our children

    We intend to add year groups above our founding cohort as it moves up, so that the first children admitted never have to leave to continue their education.

  3. From year one

    Reporting in public

    As soon as we have real results, real destinations and real parent feedback, they go on this website — including the ones we would rather not publish.
