Lower and upper Key Stage 2

Years 3 and 4 consolidate reading, extend writing into longer forms, and secure the multiplication tables. Years 5 and 6 ask for independent thinking: extended writing, fractions, decimals and percentages, multi-step problems, and research projects children organise themselves.

Specialist teaching

As subjects deepen, specialist teaching matters more. Computing, music, art and sport are taught by specialists, and science becomes hands-on investigation: predicting, testing and recording.

What your child learns

  • English. Reading for meaning across fiction and non-fiction, grammar and punctuation taught explicitly, and writing for different purposes and audiences.
  • Mathematics. Fractions, decimals, geometry, data and algebraic thinking by Year 6, built on fluent number facts.
  • Science, computing, humanities and the arts, plus physical education with athletics on our 400m all-weather track and swimming on site.

Reported against national expectations

Progress is reported against national expectations from the first term, in every subject, so you always know whether your child is working towards, at, or beyond the standard for their age.

After Year 6

Elyton teaches to Year 6, with the year groups above added as our founding cohort grows. Our guide to what comes after Year 6 sets out the routes into secondary.

Joining Key Stage 2

Places are open for September 2026 and January 2027. Bring your child's most recent school report; children moving from CBC or another system are placed by age, with a support plan for any gaps. Admissions confirms every child's starting point after a short, relaxed "Meet your child" session.
