What changes in Nursery

Nursery is still play-led, but the play becomes more purposeful. Children start hearing the separate sounds in words, the first step of systematic phonics. Counting moves from reciting numbers to understanding how many. And they learn to share a space, wait a turn and finish what they start.

A day in Blossom

  • Phonics and stories. Short, playful sessions on sounds, then a great deal of reading aloud.
  • Number through play. Sorting, matching, measuring and counting real things.
  • Outdoor learning. Time every day on the Early Years ground.
  • Making. Painting, building, music and role play: expressive arts and design, one of the seven EYFS areas.
  • Meals together. Lunch and snacks are part of tuition.

Reported against an external standard

Progress at Elyton is reported against national expectations from the first term. In Nursery, that means you hear how your child is developing across the seven areas of learning, not just how they compare with the class.

Joining Blossom

Places are open for September 2026 and January 2027. Use the age finder to check your child's year group, then book a weekday tour to see the room they would use. Admissions confirms every child's starting point after a short, relaxed "Meet your child" session.
